A Little Late

I have been slacking this last week and didn't get an update posted as promised-sorry! I went for my OB checkup last week and both babies did a complete 180...our little girl is now head down and our little boy is now breech. I much prefer this positioning as I no longer have a little girl's feet kicking me in the bladder :) Both babies weighed in at 14 oz and are still measuring a few days ahead of schedule. Everything is looking great and I managed to gain 1.5 lbs. Woo Hoo!

I managed to get motivated enough to make another pair of longies (wool diaper cover/pants) although it did involve a few cuss words under my breath. I managed to sew one leg on inside out and because the wool and thread were both black I had to cut the legs off and start them over...boo. I got everything cut out for the diapers that I am making for Dyllan and the new babies. I did not however find the motivation to start sewing them all together...hopefully I will find some this week!

Have a great week!

A Week Full of Fabric

This week I decided to dive in to my sewing projects and as I pulled them all out I realized this is going to be a full time job to get it all done.
Every project I have lined up has to do with one thing: baby butts. I am putting a serious amount of time and effort into ensuring my babies have the fluffiest (and cutest) little bottoms around for the smallest amount of money possible. Before I got pregnant with Dyllan, I made a commitment to myself (and the planet) that if I was blessed with another baby he/she would be cloth diapered. I know many people that thought I was crazy (and still am) for doing something so "old fashioned" and let's face out of the ordinary. I will admit, I have to put more effort into diapering my daughter than it would take to run to the store and grab a pack of Pampers. I have put countless hours into researching, purchasing, and caring for a pile of cloth that I take great pride in. This will not change with the upcoming arrival of our twins.

When expecting a baby (or babies), most parents worry about the big purchases like a crib, swing, stroller, and carseat. Most don't worry about what type/style of diaper or diaper system they will choose because they will be using disposables. Not me. I have been more concerned about the diapers than anything else. How many? What size? What style? What diaper covers? I have taken those decisions and blended them into my own pattern and am making my own. All week I have been cutting fabrics like cotton, fleece, wool, and flannel. All of which I have acquired for free, with the exception of some fun prints i picked up on sale six months ago at Hobby Lobby.

Here is the list of projects:

12 Prefold diapers for Dyllan
24 Prefold diapers for the Itty Bitties
12 Fleece Diaper covers
As many wool soakers, shorties, and longies as possible
24 two sided baby wipes (flannel and terry cloth)

I actually made a complete pair of longies (wool pants/diaper cover in one) and a wool soaker (diaper cover). Just making these two items myself saved my pocketbook about $80.
I have spend the last two days cutting out fabric and my hand is seriously sore. As soon as I get these bad boys sewn together I will post some pics of my favorite girl modeling her new diapers, which should make one of her big sisters pretty happy because she picked out the fabric and the other one jealous since it is a peace sign and flower print :)

Next week I will post earlier since I have my "big" ultrasound on Monday! I'm excited to see how big they have gotten since my January fetal measurements. Have a great weekend!

Look Who Got Dressed Today!

Yes, I hate to say it but today is the first day in a week (maybe a little longer) that I got up, got dressed, and did my hair and makeup. This is a big accomplishment lately as I just lack the motivation and energy. Since is my first post I figured I would write a big update for the whole family.

Bryan is still working out of town but we have been very fortunate lately as he has been coming home midweek and working from home one day. We have all enjoyed seeing Daddy more!

Austin just turned 13 a few weeks ago and is such a great help to his tired Momma. He is currently involved with 4-H Shooting Sports and Young Guns Wrestling and really enjoys them both. No girlfriends (thank goodness) although I see them in the near future...he already was asked to the Valentine's Day dance at school but politely told the young lady he wouldn't be attending.

Logan is 7 and enjoying the second grade. He is doing exceptionally well and has gotten quite a few advanced scores this last quarter. This makes me very proud considering the daily fight we go through to just get to school :) This is Logan's second year in Cub Scouts and he is currently working on his Wolf badge.

Dyllan turned 1 a few weeks ago and is becoming quite the inquisitive toddler. She started walking shortly before her birthday and I swear she said "butt" this morning haha. She has been steadily teething and we are currently working on our 4th molar...yuck. At her recent check up she was off the charts for her height and pretty close for weight so she is going to be a tall girl.

And now for me and the twins! I have to say that I am very thankful for this blessing even though I may complain a teeny bit haha. I am currently trying to gain 40 lbs and after loosing about 12, I have only managed to gain 4 back. Gaining the weight is easier said than done this time around. In December we went to Billings and had a huge ultrasound done and found that both babies have their own placenta so my risk dropped significantly! The last full baby measurements from a few weeks ago showed that both babies were measuring about a week ahead of schedule so we may end up with some big ones, which is my goal. My ultrasound a couple days ago confirmed a boy and a girl and my baby bump measured 24 weeks. So that means that my 19 week bump is the size of a 24 week bump which is to be expected with twins. I was also informed that my uterus also "thinks" it is 24 weeks so we already have a lot of painful ligament stretching and braxton hicks contractions. I am constantly amazed at the changes taking place...and my husband is too. Last week he says in awe, "wow, you definitely got bigger in the last two days." Most ladies might take offense but I had to agree and my sister did too.

Now that we are fully updated, I will update more frequently so you won't have to read a book :).  Have a great day and a fabulous upcoming weekend!
